Outside Bet
Print worker Mark Baxter, together with Paolo Hewitt, wrote a novel called The Mumper about the 1986 Wapping print strike, partly in homage to his father. The story is set in London and follows a group of friends caught up in the Thatcherite era of privatization and rising unemployment, who invest their savings in a racehorse. Diamond geezer Bob Hoskins stars alongside British character actor stalwarts Jenny Agutter, Rita Tushingham and Phil Davis. Think The Full Monty, in the East End, with horses.
